Punctuality

Let every hour be in its place
Firmly fixed, nor loosely shift,
And well enjoy the vacant space,
As though a birthday gift.
The measure of any society's development and progress does not lie in the wealth of which it disposes or the natural resources that it harbours but in the value system to which its citizens subscribe. The most important of these values are, “a respect for time”
Honourable judges, respected teachers, parents and my dear friends
I would like to speak a few words about punctuality.  What is punctuality? Allow me to begin by stating the Dictionary's definition of Punctual:  Acting or arriving exactly at the time appointed. One might wonder whether punctuality is really all that important? Does it hold any great value? What difference does it create in life?
Well, being on time shows that you are responsible, trustworthy and can follow directions. More than that, it shows that you have personal integrity and self-discipline. Time is a precious gem that cannot be wasted at any cost." It is a very special resource in that you cannot store it or save it for later use. If you don't use your time wisely, you can never get it back. A punctual person is always one step ahead of others. Often we say plan work and work plan. But if you don’t  stick on your work promptly, punctually, how can you become a better person in life?
Punctuality is essential for man in every walk of life. For students it is a great blessing. If you are punctual you will get enough time to do your work according to your plan. In hospitals, punctuality can make all the difference, of course between life and death. A punctual person never face any difficulty so far as time is concerned. He commands respect and admiration.  Punctuality is inevitable everywhere. According to an age old saying, “Time and Tide wait for none”, If you aren’t  punctual, you can see your opportunities taken  away between your cup and lip!
If we study the lives of  great men, we find that punctuality was one of the secrets of their success in life. The necessity of doing our work punctually should be felt more keenly because we live today in a complicated society where each work is dependent on the other. The smooth working of the modern world is due to an increasing recognition of the necessity of doing our work punctually. Punctuality being so important in life, it is necessary for every man to cultivate this habit from the very beginning. Once we are punctual, our labours will be lightened and well behaved.
As citizens, of a fast growing nation like India, a punctual society, would be an extra leap to reach the forefront of development, we should inculcate it to enrich our society. As Charles Simmons so aptly wrote, "Promptitude is not only a duty, but is also a part of good manners; it is favorable to fortune, reputation, influence, and usefulness; a little attention and energy will form the habit, so as to make it easy and delightful.Thankyou
